What's causing the sawdust piles near my log home's foundation in Florissant?

In the Florissant area, sawdust-like material near wood framing almost always indicates carpenter ants, not termites. Termites are not established at this elevation. Carpenter ants excavate pine framing and log construction to build nesting galleries, leaving behind coarse frass that looks like pencil shavings. Active infestations inside a log home require treatment beyond surface sprays — the colony needs to be reached directly.

Do voles actually damage lawns and landscaping out here?

Yes, and it's a significant issue in the meadow properties around Florissant and Lake George.
